Welcome to Storybook Cottage

Exactly where is Storybook Cottage?

Our cottage is located right in the heart of Harbor Country. It is within walking distance to good restaurants, shopping, and the LAKE, of course. Lake Michigan is 7 blocks away from the cottage, approximately a 10 minute walk or a 5 minute bike ride! Most of our guests enjoy walking to the beach as it is an easy and fun walk, on sidewalks and right through the quaint downtown area! The address to the cottage is 102 East Clay Street New Buffalo, MI 49117.

What is the cottage like?

It is small but lovely older home that has been fully remodeled with an eye towards respecting the past. There is a wonderful porch across the entire front of the house (with a porch swing, of course.) It is air conditioned in case the weather is HOT. Hidden from view is a small TV with VHS/DVD player in the living room. Be aware that the cottage has NO phone (so you might want to bring your cell if you want to be found!). There is an available gas grill and shaded picnic table in the yard and for your use. If bicycling is your pleasure, please feel free to borrow one of the four adult-size Schwinn Cruiser bicycles! Also, in the backyard there is a picnic table with an umbrella. The cottage is professionally decorated and fully furnished with bedding and a fully stocked kitchen. You don't need to bring much except yourselves, a healthy appetite for all the good restaurants in the area, and whatever you might want at the beach that day. It is the perfect place to relax or just get some hard-earned sleep after a busy day at the beach, shops, and other events that New Buffalo and the surrounding Harbor Country offers.

What is it like on the inside?

Storybook Cottage has two bedrooms and one bathroom. Each bedroom holds one comfortable queen-sized bed and adequate clothes storage. The cottage is perfect for two couples or a small family. There is also a comfortable sofa in the living room that can be used for overflow and an antique baby bed (a SAFE one!) in the back bedroom walk-in closet. A washer and dryer are available in the basement of the house.

Is Internet/wifi available at the house?

No, sorry, no telephone and very little technology. This can be a plus or not, depending on the way you look at it. Either way, there are some nice coffee shops in town that have wifi available and, if you have one of those magical wireless cards, you can also pick up your signal while in the house!

How much does it cost to stay at Storybook Cottage?

Rental is $150 per night with a three-night minimum rental, or $850 per week if you stay 7 days. In the peak summer months the cottage is most often rented by the WEEK (Friday to Friday). In addition to the weekly and nightly rates is a one-time cleaning fee of $60.00, no matter the length of your stay. When you decide for sure the dates that you would like to plan your get-away, we require a reservation deposit of approximately HALF of the total rental. Upon receipt of the reservation deposit, a written confirmation will be sent to you with instructions as to how to access the cottage upon your arrival.

Besides the beach and the lake, what else is there to do in New Buffalo?

When folks think about coming to New Buffalo, they often think about a "beach" vacation, but the summer months ARE jam-packed with festivals, blue-berry picking, art shows etc.. There is also plenty to do in the "off season" months as well. New Buffalo offers a good share of little shops, great restaurants, concerts, antique stores, bicycle trails and, outside of town, the Four Winds Casino and a discount mall shopping all year long! One of our favorite times in New Buffalo is the @quot;off-season.@quot; If you are looking for absolute quiet times, plan to visit in the Fall when the leaves are turning and the apples are ripe for picking! Winter is another wonderful time, and some visitors have been known to take to the the trails and even the main roads on cross-country skis. One of our family’s favorite things to do in the Fall is to take back road bike trails into downtown Three Oaks for the day. Another good day trip might be a ride over to downtown St. Joe to the old-time carousal, Butterfly Zoo, and Curious Kids Museum if you’re bringing children. The cottage is stocked with lots of current brochures from the local chamber office so that you'll have lots of choices while you're here.

Whittaker Woods Golf Course is very nice and nearby for those of you who enjoy a good round of golf! Warren Dunes State Park and Warren Wood offer alternatives for those who prefer an unspoiled walk with Nature.

Of course, there are lots of little shops downtown on Whittaker Street and you'll be walking by them when you walk or bike to the beach. The restaurants that we like are Redamak's for lunch (good working person's special on the week-days) and Stray Dog for lunch or dinner (right before you get to the public beach on the right). We have also never been disappointed with Brewster's for dinner (get the dinner for two, always wonderful!). Lots of antique stores and art galleries line up Red Arrow Highway. Red Arrow Roadhouse Restaurant is up that way and, although a little noisy, is good for dinner too.
